SCHOLARS PROGRAM accepting Research
Applications no later than April 24, 1998
If you are an exceptionally talented
Research Scholar with exemplary investigative skills in population-based biomedical
research and clinical trials you may become an NCI scholar and help the nation win the
fight against cancer. If accepted your independently designed research projects will
receive an operating budget for salary and personnel provided by NCI. Scholars will
receive orientations and guidance into the NCI/NIH environment and other support necessary
to carry out their research.
The NCI intramural divisions invite applications
for the NCI Scholars Program in the following areas of scientific expertise:
- Epidemiology and Genetics research into the
environmental and genetic determinants of cancer. Areas of special investigation
include lifestyle factors, tobacco, drug and alcohol consumption, diet and nutrition,
physical activities, environmental pollution, occupational exposures, genentic
susceptibility, endogenous factors, medicinal agents, infectious agents, radiation
exposures, and methodological research in biostatistics, exposure assessment and molecular
epidemiology
- Those with exceptional aptitude for research with
expertise on cell biology, cancer genetics, and immunology. Scholars address the
issues relative to studies on tumor immunology, chromatic structure, gene regulation,
signal transduction, cell transformation, cell cycle, or apoptosis.
The final area are relative to
candidates in cancer genetics and exploratory technologies in interrogating the human
genome, in genetic instability, and the molecular biology of angiogenesis, and of the cell
cycle and the ability to translate the research findings into the clinical setting.
Prospective Scholars must submit a
signed, typewritten original of the application and three signed photocopies in one
package to

Simultaneously two additional copies
